Lincoln
Brass
E.F.F.O.R.T.,
which is supported by the Huntington Symphony Orchestra, was formed
to bring music
to area students in the form of live performances. Through E.F.F.O.R.T.'s
"In-School Performance" series, area school children are
exposed to live orchestral music presented in an entertaining and
informative manner by the members of LINCOLN BRASS.
Last year, LINCOLN
BRASS performed for nearly 3,000 area children. In addition to the
"in-school" presentation, the participating school receives
thirty complimentary tickets for students and their parents to attend
the next Huntington Symphony Orchestra concert.
ONLINE
- In Rhythm
Another
facet of the E.F.F.O.R.T. program is the "ON LINE - In Rhythm"
series in conjunction with the Huntington Museum of Art. All fourth-grade
classes of
Cabell County participate in "ON LINE - In Rhythm", an
opportunity to investigate the qualities of a line in music, in
visual arts, and in dance. The Cabell County Board of Education
supports this program by providing transportation for students to
and from the museum. Nine hundred forty-two fourth grade students
participated in the "ON LINE - In Rhythm" series in the
fall of 1998.
With the decreasing
availability of funding for music curricula in public schools nationwide
organizations such as ours understand the increased responsibility
and integral role we play in providing children a most valuable
resource and tool - MUSIC! In September 1974, the first "In
School Performance was presented at Buffalo High School, Wayne County.
October 1, 1999 marks the twenty-fifth year of continued production
of this program with a day of three performances at Milton Elementary
School and Geneva Kent Elementary School. We intend that these presentations
will continue for many years.
The Huntington
Symphony Orchestra Association would like to congratulate and thank
Ms. Janet E. Bromley, E.F.F.O.R.T. founder and coordinator, for
her vision and dedication to music, education, and children.
